False Cast was established in 2020 by Mark Navarro and Vivien Ebright Chung, as a space dedicated to exhibiting emerging and mid-career artists, with a focus on painting. While initially conceived as a brick and mortar location in San Diego, False Cast has since evolved into a traveling project with pop up installations in both San Diego and Los Angeles. This dialogue between cities has emerged as a thread throughout exhibitions, with inclusion of painters from both communities as well as national and international artists.


This focus on regionality and locality is echoed in use of unique installation venues and an adaptive ad hoc style of presentation. False Cast creates spaces of curiosity, open dialogue and unabashed devotion to painting.
